"My real driver has always been working within the part of the team that pulls production elements together and gets the programme on air.

I have worked in live broadcasting since graduating in Film & Video Production in 2000. Working in news, light entertainment, sports and corporate sectors provides you with different sets of challenges, requiring a different approach to each. I enjoy the variety so I do feel very fortunate to be here at Vivid where we handle such a wide range of projects for our clients across each of these areas. I think that you are only as good as the last piece of work you produced; therefore I see each job as providing a constant challenge, to achieve the optimum result, in time and on budget."

Rory Springthorpe

"Few people these days seem to enjoy their work but I really do. I find the combination of creativity and business exhilarating and love the opportunities and diverse experiences the work brings.

As a director, its great seeing teams and projects come together. Whether directing a multi camera gig or studio shoot or working with a small team shooting documentaries - each project is special and unique and it's such a privilege to be part of communicating to a wider audience and letting them be part of the journey."

Stephen Montgomery

"Like we were always told, a picture is worth a thousand words. So my personal mission is to constantly ask myself, how I can better show this than it can be said. When I look through a viewfinder, or move clips along a timeline; I want them to be more genuine and carry more emotion than they do if you were there in real life.

If I did not work in the creative and visual medium, I like to think I would be doing mountain rescue. So I like a challenge. Where something seems impossible, or even just difficult, there is nearly always a solution. No-one does mountain rescue alone and team work is no less vital to me in my work. It never ceases to amaze me what we can come up with by banging a few heads together. I salute my fellow picture frames on this page!"

"Money is the lifeblood of any business. Awareness and proper management of finances enables growth and achievement of goals.

As such I value my part-time role of overseeing the recording and interpreting of financial information. As an accountant with a local firm of auditors I am being kept up to date with market developments. It is a privilege to be a part of this team that seeks to excel in the field of visual media."

Tim Hartnell

"I work with a great variety of subject material, locations and personalities. Not to mention production methods which, by their very nature, require a multi skilled approach. From music composition, sound recording and post production to camera work and editing. I try to approach everything with both creativity and a technical attention to detail, so that the end result is as good as it can be. Having said that, I think its key to be able to see past the technical process needed to communicate the message, to really understand the subject and have a genuine interest in it.

Also, I enjoy the teamwork involved in the process, as it's there that I think the biggest leap in quality happens."

Jon Smethurst

"The art of Creativity is simply the ability to take a number of elements and connect them together in a new way. When people ask me how we thought of that, sometimes it's a little embarrassing, as in reality we just had a vision and brought some pieces together to express it - when people say "but that seems so simple" I know that we have successfully connected our vision into their experience and that is always the hallmark of great creative design."

"My work being viewed by a large audience, that is something that has always appealed to me. I’m quite technical so I can express myself creatively through the camera. It has to be about making that perfect shot, whether it’s to string a storyline together or create an atmosphere.

Live work is great; you have to get it right first time and I love trying different approaches for the structured films. I am always looking at a locations thinking of the most creative way of capturing what is needed, it about thinking out of the box!"
